AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFIED Lifeguard Training
The City of Westbrook will be offering this April an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course at the Westbrook Community Center. Participants must be 15-years old by the conclusion of the course. Upon successful completion, participants will be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The pre-course screening consists of a non-stop 300-yard swim. When doing this, participants may use front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Participants must also complete the following tasks: tread water for two minutes, using only their legs; and finish the following activity within 1 minute and 42 seconds – swim 20 yards, surface dive to retrieve a 10-lb. brick, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point while holding the brick with both hands, and exit the pool without using the steps or ladder.
Participants must attend all classes. No exceptions!
